In the past years the FTTH projects have progressed well. In most of the network builds miniduct systems were used to optimise existing duct infrastructure in urban areas, which allow a reliable installation of cables in the distribution and access network level. With a look at minicables, new trends are recognisable: On the one side, there is a tendency to further improve the utilisation of the duct infrastructure by increasing the fibre count without changing the cable diameter. On the other side miniduct systems are used more and more in backbone networks. Besides a successful usage of miniduct networks in FTTH network builds for more than a decade, potential cost reductions by using small network components are a good reason for their utilisation in backbone networks.|In the past years the FTTH projects have progressed well.
