Hospital standardizes its new network with Lightera solutions

With more than 46 thousand visits per month, in 30 different medical specialties and a contingent of more than 3 thousand health professionals, the Base Hospital of São José do Rio Preto is one of the largest and most important hospital complexes in the state of São Paulo – and a teaching hospital (linked to the Faculty of Medicine of Rio Preto) with relevant weight in Latin America.

CHALLENGE

Two years ago, the process of adapting the infrastructure of the Base Hospital of São José do Rio Preto to the concept of Hospital 4.0 began.

In 2020, the Hospital started implementing its new communication infrastructure and, as some areas of the hospital were already using Lightera solutions, it was necessary to standardize the new communication network that is being built.

SOLUTION IMPLEMENTED

In all, the new communication network of Hospital de Base will have 6 thousand points, with the use of more than 220 km of GigaLan Green cables – manufactured with coating in green polyethylene based on ethanol extracted from sugar cane, 100% recyclable and with low smoke emission in case of fire.

The new communication network has been implemented in stages, in parallel with the functioning of the existing network, in order to avoid changes in the hospital’s routine, or the interruption of its services.

The redundant optical backbone, which connects the two data centers of the hospital (located about 1 km away from each other), is already in operation, as well as part of the new network implemented in the specialty clinic.

The project is expected to last 2 to 3 years and should serve all areas of the Base Hospital, both for patient care and back-office (shopping, warehousing, billing, etc.), as well as the blood center and the child’s hospital, which are also part of the Foundation.
