- If category cable is used, doesn’t that negate the benefits of the fiber?
- Category cable is effective at short distances.
- Fiber provides a much cleaner installation due to its size and is ‘future proof’. There will not be a need to replace the fiber for faster speeds since fiber optics can transmit up to 30 terabytes of data per second.
- Can I use fiber outside?
- Yes, the fiber can be routed on the outside of the house. If adhering to brick, you may need to use more adhesive as it will soak into the surface.
- What type of fiber is used in the kit?
- Included in your kit is an all glass, singlemodefiber. It features G.657.B3macrobending performance, meaning it can be bent with little to no attenuation. The fiber itself can transmit large amounts of data, up to 30 terabits/sec.
- What if I need to move my fiber after it is glued?
- Unfortunately, once adhered, the fiber cannot be moved. If you need to create a new path, you can purchase an additional spool of fiber on Amazon. If you are replacing existing fiber, it is recommended to adhere a new fiber on top of the old one.
- What do the lights on the media converters mean?
- Please reference the media converter data sheet which can be found HERE.
- What do the switches on the media converters do?
- These are dip switches that should not be adjusted. All dip switches should be in the “ON” position.
- Will bending the fiber cause attenuation?
- No. The fiber used in our kit features a G.657.B3 fiber which means you can create multiple 90 degreebends with little to no attenuation. Because our fiber is glass, avoid pinching the fiber as that can cause the fiber to break. If a fiber is broken, it cannot be repaired.
- Can I connect multiple devices using this kit?
- At this time, only one device cantbe connected using the InvisiLight Home Fiber Kit.
- What is the maximum speeds I can expect with this kit?
- Our kits have max speeds of up to 1,000mbps. Please note, your ISP’s speed to your home or your existing equipment may limit your maximum speeds.
- Is this available in my country?
- The InvisiLight Home Fiber Kit is available in all 50 U.S. states and U.S. territories at this time.
- Can I cut and splice fiber?
- No, once fiber is cut, you cannot splice it or another piece of fiber together.
- I have a connection and can view webpages, but I cannot download anything.
- You may need to reset your network connection. This can be done in the Network and Internet settings of your device.
- I have intermittent disruptions or a slow connection after installation.
- Ensure all Ethernet cords and fiber cords are connected securely, and the media converters are powered on.
- Disconnect the power to your modem and/or router for 30 seconds and restart the devices. Restart your end device. If you are still having issues, you may need to reset your network connection. This can be done in the Network and Internet settings of your device. Refer to your device’s manual for further information.
- I have everything installed, but my device is still using the Wi-Fi.
- You may need to disable the Wi-Fi on your device to force the use of the Ethernet connection.
- I have broken my fiber. Can I repair it?
- No. If a fiber is broken, it cannot be spliced or repaired. You will need to replace it with a new fiber.
