Lightera Launches TeraPatch™ to Expand Optical Infrastructure Capacity for High-Performance Data Centers
Lightera, the company that brings together the global fiber optic cable operations of the Furukawa Electric Group, has launched TeraPatch™, an optical infrastructure solution designed for data centers and telecommunications networks with demanding processing and traffic requirements.
TeraPatch™ addresses the rapid growth of data-intensive applications such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and high-performance computing (HPC), which require higher fiber density and more efficient use of available space.
The solution features a standardized modular architecture focused on maximizing space utilization and simplifying network expansion. In practice, it enables operators to scale existing infrastructure without significant structural modifications, reducing deployment time and operational costs.
TeraPatch™ supports the termination of up to 3,456 fibers within a single system designed for Rollable Ribbon cables. Its cable organization and termination architecture simplify operations and maintenance while enabling future network expansion without disrupting live environments.
“Data center infrastructure is undergoing a major transformation, driven by a growing number of connections and the need for continuous evolution. TeraPatch™ helps organize this growth and prepares networks to keep pace with these changing demands,” said Luiz Henrique Zimmermann Felchner, Senior Engineering Manager at Lightera.
The portfolio includes optical cabinets and modules for transition, splicing, and termination applications, supporting everything from hyperscale data centers to enterprise, colocation, and edge environments. Its modular architecture preserves existing infrastructure while enabling gradual, cost-effective scalability.
“Developed in Brazil, TeraPatch™ will initially be launched in Latin America, with plans to expand into additional markets. This initiative is part of the company’s strategy to develop technologies that address the evolving demands of digital infrastructure,” added Cássio Cardoso, Product Engineer (RCDD) at Lightera.
By reducing the need for physical infrastructure upgrades and enabling rapid network expansion, TeraPatch™ helps optimize both capital expenditures (CapEx) and operating expenses (OpEx), while providing greater predictability for future infrastructure growth.
